artist statement
My art is a love song dedicated to Ireland.
Irish landscape provides an endless source of inspiration for me. I am continually fascinated with its special landforms and richness of its heritage. It resonates with something deep within me and feels like home to my soul. Painting is my way of engaging with this feeling of belonging, with the nature and genius loci, the spirit of place.
At the heart of my work there is a desire to capture the atmosphere of a place in a specific moment of time: its light, its weather, its colours. These elements come together to reveal the unique aura of a landscape and convey the experience of being at that place at that moment.
As a landscape artist, I focus on the surrounding seascapes, urban scenes, rural countryside, and its natural, historical, and archaeological heritage. My practice includes both plein air and studio work, primarily using watercolour.
I am a Cork-based professional visual artist focused on the contemporary watercolour and acrylic landscape painting. I am a member of VAI, Sample-Studios (Cork), Lavit Gallery (Cork), Cnoc Bui Art Centre (Union Hall, West Cork). A participant of Studios of Sanctuary Residency Programme (Cork) - award-winning training and mentorship programme for artists from migrant, refugee, and asylum-seeking backgrounds.
Awarded Agility Award 2023 by the Arts Council of Ireland.
I was born in Ukraine, where I had been living and working prior to the outbreak of war in 2022. Now living in Cork, I am developing my art practice in Ireland.
