Phenomenology

Phenomenology, as it is explained by ‘The Internet Encyclopaedia of Philosophy”- The direct investigation of experiences without theories of their explanation and as free as possible from unexamined preconceptions. Topics discussed within the phenomenological tradition include the nature of intentionality, perception, time-consciousness, self-consciousness, awareness of one’s own body and consciousness of others.

Carbon watercolours from lichen, holly, garden snail shells, crow bones, human nails, turf, sea mussels shells, words on acetate, tulip tree timber, beeswax, glass vessels holding rain water made sacred by - the northern lights overhead, the path of Brigid one February night, songs of cricket and lights of glow worms, partial solar eclipse, tears of joy.

Annie Hogg is an emerging Tipperary artist. With a studio based practice using sculpture, installation, sound and community engagement, she works with natural materials in traditional and innovative ways.

Her work researches power relations and resources. Aiming to see both human and other than human responses and outcomes in human led situations. Material choices are made with an intention of furthering discourse of the world and Hogg’s place in it.

Annie has exhibited regionally and nationally, with three solo shows including South Tipp Arts Centre, LOST 2023 and numerous group shows including RUA RED Annual Open Exhibition 2025, Hamilton Gallery & Embassy of Ireland, The Netherlands, Bloodroot 2025, The Source Arts Centre The Point of Origin 2026. Upcoming group shows in 2026 include, Artlink Fort Dunree Art In The Park, Catalyst Arts Directors Show and Clonmel Junction Arts Festival.
